Video on GIS and My Houston Map

Your Houston Map Website 

- Through the use of ArcGIS, we were able to change the colors of counties depending on the amount of entries that were tracked with no cars to their household. We also changed the topography of the graph, alongside emergency escape routes. After doing this we changed the layout of the map functions and changed the weight of the road and dividing lines in order for it to be more aesthetic to users. 

DAY 1:

Q. Describe a time when you used a geospatial tool to make a decision. Provide specific details. 

- I use a geospatial tool all of the time when my family is out of town and we must find restaurants near us. One just has to look up "restaurants near me" and the web will bring up food places around you. 

Q2. As an individual sensor, how might you contribute to the solution of location-based problems? 

- I may be driving on a road and it could have a tree down on it. The geospatial tool will take this into account and send others on a detour around it. 

NOTES-

- LIDAR Data in order for laser point accuracy and creating. of 3D models. In this example, the city stated that people can't build anything that'll block the view of the mountain. With this device, you can do sightline evaluations in order to see how high the new buildings can go without blocking this view. 

- In the center of delivery centers, the workers can see near exact locations of every driver on duty. 

- Geography is now all about technology that is going to make your life easier and simply better.

DAY 2:

Q. (2) UPS - Choose one of the three applications from the video and describe how the company or community used GIS. Then describe how you feel that this same technology could be applied to your community (or a company that impacts your life in some way.) 

- The people in the center of the company can follow the GPS tracker on the workers device. While they are doing that, the drivers can make changes to the maps or roads in order to be more efficient and safe. 

NOTES-

- Nowadays you can track people with or without them knowing. 

- Powerscene... Through the use of this, they created different territories from roads and mountains to divide them in order for different cultures to live safely. In this example it was Muslims, etc. in Bosnia. 

- They use everything in order to find places for IED's or landing spots for helicopters. 

- When 911 is dialed, GIS is active from the start. There was a robbery at the bank in the middle of the city. The officers can set 1, 3, or 5 minutes perimeters in this example to set up blockades depending on how long the robber had been driving. 

- All sex offenders have to wear a bracelet/anklet in California. They have a GPS unit in this and can make sure they stay the amount of feet, yards, etc. away from what they have to. 

DAY 3: 

Q. This reminds me of... 

- At the beginning of the video it states that people are tracked with or without knowing at some points in their lives. For me, sometimes when I am traveling I forget that my phone is tracking me. If I get to the point where I am looking for things to do or places to eat, Google will use my location to bring places up for me. 

Q2. 3 pros and cons of geospatial technology. 

- Pros (Keep family members safe, Knowledge of closed roads or roadwork, and finding nearby things to do extremely easily)

- Cons (People who you don't want tracking can track you, stalkers can see where you are extremely easily, and sometimes GIS is not updated in certain areas, causing things to become confusing)

Creating a Video Game

 

Throughout the last few classes we were instructed to follow the steps for the tutorial on the site called construct 3. We did so ad throughout the process we leaned how to add text, different sprites/objects, and how to make everything move and flow together. In the ed we had to make our own touch to the tutorial. We chose to add the feature of sometimes to having to kill the master in a full 5 shots.

Everything worked on our game except for our bullet coming from a set point in the middle of the screen rather than the gun on your player. 

Plant Project

In the past two classes, we had to make our own website. We used the layout from a previous website that we worked on, then added all of our pictures, prices, fonts, and wires to make everything flow properly.

In the first part of the XD project, we learned how to attach wires to different pages in order to make transitions or exit out of certain things. 

In the second part, we continued with the wires, but also select small portions of our work to make more precise changes. 

In today's class, we put together the portions of scrolling and setting up the menu for the whole website on mobile. For example, if you click on chair or sofa, it will take you to these pages.

Another piece we added to the project is the inclusion of scrolling from page to page, or tab to tab, on the website. We did so by connecting wires to each tab then changing the tap interaction to scroll.

I wanted to make my typography have a sense of royalty and leadership. I chose to represent this by using chess pieces, crowns, and the colors of maroon, gold, and purple. I made simplified options of the several that I made just by making them either back and white or by removing some of the more detailed parts of the design. My favorite is on of the ones on Canva, for they look the most professional, although I do like the A and B in the mountain design. This is because it has a slightly different typography of nature and wilderness to identify myself as a country kid.

Pizza Hut- where most of the scene took place

Bentley Wings- they were the birds flying

Ghostbusters- the road signs were all this logo

Heinz- stuck out to me because I am from Pittsburgh

KFC- Colonel Sanders was present

Michelin- they were the cops

Paramount- was a mountain in the zoo area

The Green Giant- seemed like the protector of the zoo

Pringles- spicy and original were in Pizza Hut hitting on the peanut

Nickelodeon- after the sexual scene, the logo splats on the ground

Mercedes Benz- wheel in the van he is driving

Foot Locker- this logo stood out to me because of my interest in shoes

Chicago Bulls- just a logo as a hat or something like that

Colgate- the toothpaste logos were the skyscrapers because of their shape

The North Face- held up the mountain in order to keep the Nike sign in tact

Nike- was like an island after the ground fell through

Pepsi- the Earth was represented by Pepsi

Mastercard- this was two planets together in a scene

NASA- the last planet I saw was NASA, and what better brand to put in space

Thoughts and Reflections:

Amazed by all of the hardworking that must've went into this film for kind of being a joke. Although it came out, I am sure, exactly how they want it.
